NESTA research launch: ‘In and Out of Sync: The Challenge of Growing Social Innovations’ by Geoff Mulgan with Rushanara Ali, Richard Halkett and Ben Sanders

On Wednesday 12th September, NESTA will launch its latest research report, ‘In and Out of Sync,’ produced in partnership with the Young Foundation. Jonathan Kestenbaum, Chief Executive of NESTA will chair the session and Geoff Mulgan, Director of the Young Foundation will present the findings of the research before opening for questions and discussion.

‘In and Out of Sync’ is about how social innovations spread and grow. It provides a theoretically and empirically grounded guide, drawing on eleven original case studies, for the many people involved in social innovation: innovators, funders, policy-makers and commissioners.

It identifies four necessary conditions for putting innovations into practice sustainably and on a large scale.  It develops these into a theoretical framework called the ‘Growth Map’ and provides a method for deciding between different models of growth – from uncontrolled diffusion to organisational growth.  Finally, it provides a toolkit to help innovators themselves decide what strategy to undertake.

We hope that you will be able to join us for what we are sure will be a stimulating and thought-provoking event.

Breakfast served at 8.00am and presentations to start promptly at 8.30am.

The Young Foundation is a centre for social innovation developing practical initiatives to address unmet social needs. Visit http://www.youngfoundation.org/.

NESTA’s Policy & Research Unit aims to help transform the UK’s capacity for innovation by:

Building a relevant and coherent policy and research programme that resonates with national priorities, political realities, media interest and the research frontier.

Integrating policy goals within all NESTA programmes - using research to design programmes, and using the evidence base created by programmes to drive policy development.

Establishing a strong policy and research community around innovation.
